Circa Victorian 1900 all hand assembled;  stunning baby's cream ivory Christening bonnet with the finest entwined glistening silk ribbonwork that makes this beauty perfectly outstanding !

The face opening is decorated with three layers of very fine bobbin lace net frills plus added decoration of entwined silk ribbon. Silk ribbon rosettes also decorate the front edge at either side.

A single bobbin lace frill is applied to the neck edge.Panels of Valencienne lace together with many rows of entwined silk ribbon just adds true beauty to this lovely bonnet. The back cap having similar embellishment applied is surrounded by a border of net frills. Having silk ribbon ties as closures.

Measuring: Outer face edge cheek to cheek:10"       Neck edge : 8" approximately

Head circumference : 15"  Bonnet was made with one adjustable drawstring tie inside that one can make smaller in the back of the bonnet.

LACES AND FRILLS OF ANTIQUE NEEDLERUN LACE CHRISTENING BONNET C. 1870

Quite an impressive beauty of a bonnet with such exquisitely designed needlerun stitching on a floral theme. Two delightful needlerun frills softly frame the outer front edge to the bonnet along with a scalloped frill decorating the neck edge. Outstanding needlerun designed back cap is framed with an outer trimming of dainty hand worked bobbin lace.

This wonderful bonnet has a sweet pink lining .However should you wish another color; this can be removed to use as a template.

Clean sparkling white , in good wearing condition; with just a tiny net hole shown in a magnified picture. Needle lace is a type of lace created using a needle and thread to stitch up hundreds of small stitches to form the lace itself. Beginning in the 17th century in Italy, a variety of styles developed where the work is started by securing heavier guiding threads onto a stiff background (such as thick paper) with stitches that can later be removed. The work is then built up using a variety of stitches - the most basic being a variety of buttonhole or blanket stitch. When the entire area is covered with the stitching, the stay-stitches are released and the lace comes away from the paper.Needle lace is also used to create the fillings or insertions in cutwork.

This is a most delightful pale cream handworked lace bonnet with outstanding style. Decorative lace work being attached to netting under which there is a light pink lining. A pretty scalloped bobin lace frill frames the outer front edge and neck edge to the bonnet . Scalloped lace flaps decorate the cheek edge at each side; embellished with pink satin rosettes .

 Central panel of bobbin lace decorates the middle back of this bonnet either side are vertical hand stitched pintucks to the net.

Clean , no stains in good wearable condition ; a highly decorative individual antique bobbin lace bonnet most desired !

Lace-making was one of Bedfordshire’s main industries, being mentioned as early as 1596. By 1768, 500 women and girls – about a seventh of the town’s population – were making lace in Bedford alone. By the 1830′s the industry was in decline. A leading Bedford lace dealer called Thomas (or Thomazin) Lester and his sons did much to revive it. During the 1850′s they introduced a new type of lace which became known as Bedfordshire Maltese lace.

C 1860 all beautifully hand worked with most EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY!

Circa 1860 all hand assembled and hand embroidered Ayrshire whitework. Bonnet totally embellished with whitework, showing ladder work, padded satin stiches and eyelet work along with superb needlelace fillings. This lovely back cap circle is entirely decorated with whitework, needlelace, fillings. This decoration surrounded with scalloped hand worked whitework and eyelet trim.

Measurements:  Outer edge from cheek to cheek --12"  neck edge --9"

This bonnet is in excellent condition,  no stains or damage and freshly laundered is sparkling white and ready for use.

ANTIQUE 18th C. LACE INSERT BABY'S BONNET  of FINE DELICATE COTTON LAWN

Hand made with minute hand stitching with numerous channeling for cord adjustments making size smaller. When done treat carefully.  The adjustment cords are visible hanging from one side of the bonnet and at the center of the back. Between later 18th C. to early 19thC.

The crown insert is of a lovely hand made lace surrounded by smaller Valencienne ruffle.

A most pretty hand assembled white lace Baby's Christening Bonnet dating to the turn of the Twentieth Century in excellent condition. The main body decorated with a most lovely designed vintage machine lace. The outer deep frill along with the outer edge trimming to the back cap are however Needlerun l.ace.

This beauty is displayed on my model doll with head circumference of 15 2/3". It was common for the bonnets to be made with adjustable ties to accomodate Baby to the fullest. This one has 4 front ties and 1 to the back that can be made to make larger or smaller in size.
