BEAUTIFUL ORNATE CUTWORK BRODERIE ANGLAISE VINTAGE CHRISTENING GOWN

Circa 1900 a most superior white decorative cotton lawn Christening robe this lovely gown having an eyecatching scalloped edged skirt, the decoration to this skirt consisting of row upon row of floral cutwork which is a most wonderful 23" in depth. This beautiful decoration is applied to the whole circumference of this eyecatching skirt. Attached to the lovely scalloped hemline is a 1 3/4" flounce of whitework which adds even more charm to this lovely gown. The pretty high waisted bodice at the front is embellished with slightly diagonal and horizontal whitework panels, these panels being prettily decorated at either side with hand stitched herringbone stitches.The pretty neckline is trimmed with a thin trimming of Valencienne lace the neck seam having hand stitched herringbone decoration as has the waist band. The full length sleeves have a pretty scalloped edged whitework frill at cuff level and to the back of the bodice there are adjustable linen ties to the neck opening and a linen covered button at the waist opening.   Measuring chest.....22" all around,   length.....36 1/2"  approximately this most lovely gown is in excellent condition is stain and damage free and having been freshly laundered is sparkling white and ready for use. A truly most sturdy and eyecatching gown, which would make a wonderful heirloom serving many generations to come. Certain to please !
