STUNNING ORNATE VICTORIAN CHRISTENING GOWN

A most lovely Victorian all hand assembled embossed looking whitework Ayrshire Christening gown dating to around the 1880's and having an eyecatching highly decorative central panel, this panel being totally embellished from the neckline right down to the hemline with diagonal and horizontal panels of decorative whitework and flounces some of the whitework panels and flounces being embellished at either side with hand sewn herringbone stitches. Either side of this lovely central panel there are two side flat frills, these frills also being decorated with hand sewn herringbone stitches and rise up from the hemline, over the shoulder and continue around the back of the neckline. The neckline to this most attractive gown has a thin trimming of Valencienne lace, the neck seam having hand stitched herringbone stitching applied. The pretty short sleeves are constructed from the same whitework frills as in the central panel. The back of the gown has adjustable linen ties to the neck and waistband which can be adjusted to suit baby's size. The waistband to the side and back of the gown also having hand stitched herringbone decoration.  At the hemline, and radiating out from the central panel and encompassing the sides and back of the gown there are three rows of decorative pintucks and a whitework flounce. Measuring chest......21"  length......39"  this most eyecatching gown is in excellent condition for it's age with only two minute pinholes both lost in the folds of the skirt.  Having been freshly laundered it is sparkling white and ready for use. A most lovely all hand assembled antique baby's Christening gown, ready for immediate use and sturdy enough to serve many generations to come.
