VIN 1890 Highly Decorative Central Panel Gown

A most decorative Victorian Christening gown circa 1890 this eyecatching gown having a central panel and bodice which is heavily decorated on a floral theme. The central skirt panel is totally embellished with row upon row of horizontal pintucks, whitework panels and a most pretty deep whitework frilled flounce to the hemline of the central panel. To either side of this central panel there are two side flat frills, these frills being scalloped in design and again on a floral theme. The hemline is further decorated with a scalloped whitework flounce which radiates out from either side of the central panel and continues around the whole circumference of the hemline of the skirt.  The highly embellished bodice again is decorated with rows of vertical pintucks, a whitework central panel and diagonal panels of scalloped whitework. The pretty 'puffed' short sleeves have a thin trimming of Valencienne lace to the edges. The neckline to the bodice is also decorated with the same trimming of Valencienne lace and to the back of the bodice there is an adjustable linen tie to both neck and waist openings. Measurements are chest.....20"  length.....38 1/2". This pretty Christening gown is in excellent condition, has been freshly laundered is stain free and ready for use. An extremely sturdy cotton batiste  wearable gown which without doubt will serve many generations to come ! Great buy for such a lovely antique Christening Gown !
